I recently paid nearly $20 for a muffin and a cup of coffee at one of our hip local cafés. The muffin was good. The coffee was good. But at that price point, I should also get an equity stake in the business, right?
What the hell happened? I remember when coffee was a hot drink, not a make or break financial consideration. By the time the tax and tip screen have had their way with you, a little caffeine and a baked good cost roughly the same as lunch once did.
I understand that rent is high, ingredients are expensive and café employees deserve a living wage. But customers need one too. There must be some middle ground between exploiting workers and charging $8 for something that used to come with free refills.
At these prices, caffeine is no longer a mild dependency—it’s a luxury. I guess it’s time to start dating Mr. Coffee again.

It is SO cool that the king of fraud himself, our esteemed president, is the dude most responsible for spreading false claims of election fraud, past (2020) and present.
This is consistent with his claims of fake news whenever he gets fact-checked by a responsible member of the press, who knows that nothing he has ever said in a public setting has had even the faintest hint of truth anyway.
That book by Al Franken from years ago, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at The Right, still applies.
This is a man we can really trust. We’re so lucky to have him.
