“Rough-and-tumble” defines the life of Johnny Winter, whose struggle with and overcoming of heroin addiction is almost as great as his output has been prolific. Most know him from “Rock and Roll, Hootchie Koo,” but his guitar playing shines on his latest release, Roots. After all, Winter learned from the master, Muddy Waters. He plays sitting down these days, but he’s still a gem; see Johnny Winter on Tuesday, May 15, at the Napa Valley Opera House (1030 Main St., Napa; 8pm; $30-$35; 707.226.7372) and shake his hand at a meet-and-greet on Wednesday, May 16, at the Last Record Store (1899 Mendocino Ave., Santa Rosa; 4-6pm; Free; 707.525.1963).
