The April 9 show at the Phoenix Theater with Jeff Mangum from Neutral Milk Hotel is nearly sold-out, but we here at the Bohemian have two spare tickets—and they can be yours for a song.
No, literally. A song.
All you have to do is record your version of a song by Neutral Milk Hotel (or Jeff Mangum solo), and send it to us in mp3 form at [email protected]. We’ll sort through the entries, listening intently to each one, and our panel of Neutral Milk Hotel experts (i.e., almost everyone who works here) will choose the winning cover song.
As with past cover-song contests with Built to Spill and Animal Collective, entries will be judged not on technical merit but on enthusiasm, creativity and uniqueness. If you can’t play an instrument but can bang on a vacuum cleaner with a wisk while yodeling “Two-Headed Boy,” we want to hear from you.
Entries must be received by Monday, April 1, at [email protected]. We’ll announce the winners in the April 3 issue of the Bohemian, and will post the top three entries online at www.bohemian.com. Now get recording, and good luck!
