Your Letters, Sept. 30

Therapy Bot

I read all three parts of Cincinnatus Hibbard’s Bohemian series on AI and psychotherapy (Aug. 25, Sept. 1, Sept. 8), and the wisdom gap has stayed with me: technology racing up one curve, self-knowledge crawling up another, the two pulling further apart.

I live on both curves. Over a decade in therapy, four years using AI every day. I have wanted to bring the two together and had no idea where to start. The series convinced me it can work. What it never shows is how.

So, one request: Run a fourth piece, or let Hibbard publish the working version. The actual prompts, the setup and the guardrails he used to keep it honest when the machine wants to flatter you or confidently make things up. I don’t need more convincing. I need a place to start.

Joke’s on Whom?

The San Francisco Standard bought Marin Lately, hired its creator and turned his cheeky little website into a Bay Area-wide satire operation. Somewhere, a freelancer appears to have made a mint by noticing that Marin County is funny.

Meanwhile, the Pacific Sun has had decades of local absurdity delivered to its doorstep: wellness cults, billionaire environmentalists, peacock disputes and people trying to outlaw leaf blowers. Yet some guy with a website ate your lunch.

If the Pacific Sun is going to be a joke, it should at least have the business sense to call itself satire.
