.Feb. 5: A Capella Extravaganza at Napa High School

Time was that college a capella groups existed mainly in nerdy hamlets of dorm rooms and YouTube channels, performing David Bowie and Of Montreal songs for the camera and each other. Glee, of course, has changed all that, but the innate thrill of arranging a song for voices hasn’t been dulled—and probably never will. Napa hosts an annual A Capella Extravaganza which pulls from the best cavalcades of California croon, and this year’s lineup is top-notch: The Scattertones, from UCLA, sing Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” and Kanye West’s “Stronger”; Naked Voices do “Superfreak” and “Bohemian Rhapsody”; and the UC Berkeley Men’s Octet do Seal’s “Kiss From a Rose” and who knows what else on Saturday, Feb. 5, at Napa High School. 2475 Jefferson St., Napa. 7:30pm. $20. 707.253.3705.
