.Aug 17: Keiko Matsui at George’s

Despite her small stature, she is one of the largest names in contemporary jazz, with over 20 albums to credit. Japanese native Keiko Matsui fuses east and west between her piano-playing fingers—her style a mesh of classical, new age, jazz, R&B and ambience. Powerful and introspective, she describes her composing very ethereally, “catching notes from the silence and then simply placing them together.” Her most recent album, The Road…, captures her essence in a medley of sharp yet soothing chords and heart-swaying melodies. She pours her spirit to a small, very privileged audience on Friday, Aug. 17, at George’s. 842 Fourth St., San Rafael. 7pm—10pm. $35—$50. 415.226.0262.
