The reality cooking show Top Chef always starts with a “quickfire challenge.” The competing chefs are provided ingredients, and one hour to create something that is edible and inventive. SQUART! (short for spontaneous queer art) takes this concept and applies it to art world. Created by San Francisco–based dancer Laura Arrington, a spring artist in residence at Headlands Center for the Arts, the concept of the performance is simple. Preselected participants divided into teams of four are given two themes and 24 hours to generate four original works on-site. At the end of the allotted time, the pieces will be performed for the public and a team of “celebrity” judges. Harrington says the results are “creative, inspiring and bizarre.” Check out the creations on Sunday, March 27, at Headlands Center for the Arts. 944 Fort Barry, Sausalito. 3pm. $10–$5 members. 415.331.2787.
