Born in Idaho and reared in Santa Fe, the singer-songwriter Eilen Jewell had played bars and farmers markets in small, dusty towns. But when she moved to Los Angeles after college, she planted herself on the sidewalks of Venice Beach, where she learned to stick to her own muse without worry of what passing strangers might say. Now based in Cambridge with three acclaimed albums to her credit, Jewell doesn’t have to weather too many street insults anymore. For those still awaiting a new Gillian Welch record, Jewell’s latest Sea of Tears should help fill the void: her diminutive voice wades through subdued, reverb-tinged rockabilly and cafe jazz, weaving stories of love and loss with the timbre of Jolie Holland or Neko Case. You’ve heard her version of “Shakin’ All Over” in True Blood, now see the real thing when Jewell plays Friday, June 18, at Studio E. Map supplied with ticket. 8pm. $25. 707.542.7143.
