Last year it was reported that the massive oak tree shading the historic cottage at Jack London State Park, commonly called ‘Jack’s Oak,’ was in poor health and may have to be cut down. Estimated at 400 years old, the tree is nearing the end of its life, though a year later the tree still stands. This week, the community comes together to celebrate the ancient oak. The past and present life of Jack’s Oak will be discussed, and a new seedling from the tree will be planted in the spirit of nature’s renewing cycle. The celebration concludes with a walk through the park to appreciate the other trees in Beauty Ranch.
