Music just isn’t what it used to be. What was once an industry for the artistically inclined has morphed into an enterprise primarily for making money. Lifelong San Francisco–area resident Deborah Winters keeps music’s original intention alive, exploring jazz from the 1940s and onward. With influences like Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington, Winters reexamines the history of jazz on her latest album, Lovers After All. She sings on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 142 Throckmorton Theatre. 142 Throckmorton Ave., Mill Valley. 8pm. $26–$35. 415.383.9600.
