If I could—and perhaps I can—I would demand a bi-annual screening of the 2002 film version of The Importance of Being Earnest, featuring performances by Rupert Evrett, Reese Witherspoon, Colin Firth and Frances O’Connor as divine as Wilde’s writing. Nonetheless, there are screenings plenty, many of them harkening from across the pond, to be taken in at Summerfield Cinemas in Santa Rosa, a member of the now rare and protected breed of arthouse cinemas. Go! I beg you, go. Keep this red velvet story palace alive. Buy a Dove chocolate ice cream bar and eat it in the back three rows; let the lights flicker over an expression full of wonder—enjoy the sweet, softness of the ice cream and the transporting nature of human imagination.—JV
