To properly describe the vocal style of rapper Keak da Sneak, we’d have to write some standard-issue crit-speak like “possessed of a casual flow, Keak peppers his rhymes with Bay Area slang and a choppy sense of rhyme.” Then we’d ask you to take this paper, rub it face-down in the gravel for 10 seconds, and read it again. That’s Keak da Sneak. The rough-around-the-edges Oakland-based rapper is best known for his star turn on E-40’s hyphy anthem “Tell Me When 2 Go,” but his own hits, such as “Super Hyphy” and “White T-Shirt, Blue Jeans and Nikes,” show he’s a true hip-hop original with a scruffy-voiced sensibility that few can touch. He lights the place up with D-Lo, J-Stalin and Roach Gigz on Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Phoenix Theater. 201 E. Washington St., Petaluma. 8pm. $25. 707.762.3565.
