World-class: More than the menu draws fans to the East West Bakery Cafe.

Twain Shall Meet

THE EAST WEST BAKERY CAFE in Sebastopol is esteemed by lucky locals for more than just its inventive, health-minded, multinational cuisine. There's something about the casual, cafeteria-style atmosphere and the inviting, sun-filled dining room that inspires folks to reach verbal heights of impassioned conversation during the restaurant's daytime operation. At night, the talk lessens a bit and the ambience--enhanced by the dining room's tasteful Eastern decor--becomes softer, more intimate. Regular customers tend to describe East West with a mild tinge of jealous possessiveness; not quite eager to give up their secret, but unable to keep it entirely to themselves. 128 N. Main St. 829-2822.--D.T.
