Best place to relive your prom: Couples shuffle along to the Savoy Swingers at one of the Flamingo Hotel's weekend dance concerts.
Retro Dreams
HOP INTO A WHITE STRETCH LIMO and head along Fourth Street
toward the gigantic, gangly neon-pink flamingo revolving repetitively in the night sky--unlike your real prom, you won't need to take even a dribble of that lethally spiked Kool Aid punch to see a large pink creature perched high atop Santa Rosa's Flamingo Resort Hotel. Prom attire is de rigueur for an evening at this newly renovated historic deco landmark, a hit with local swing dancers. For her: Throw on something stiff and puffy in seafoam green--or (how apt) flamingo pink--and have your mom shellac your fussy up-do into place with a can of Aquanet. For him: Color is key--bow tie and cummerbund must match Muffy Sue's outfit. Better yet, the entire suit could be cut from the same itchy cloth as her gown. Sashay into the hotel's lounge (or maybe just a poolside room in back with a king-size bed?). Try retro-disco night (Thursdays) or
sample live-dance-music night (Fridays and Saturdays). And don't forget the
corsage. Flamingo Resort Hotel, 2777 Fourth St., Santa Rosa; 545-8530.
